List of local Venues throughout Indy music history.

Everyone has played in venues before, how about we get a listing of some old places that we've all played at. See how far back you can remember, and see if those places have been refurbished or renamed. Also welcome to add any favorites from the present tense. Any if you're feeling good, some places you'd like to see a venue put in.

Here's a good list that will be updated.

the arlington theater, later the ritz (my first big punk show and first movie ever, song of the south)
hoosier ballroom
the ritz (the one that was connected to a hotel on shadeland, might have the name wrong)
the patio
the avenue
the vogue
nypd
an old school on lafayette rd. (jot, heretic lunch)
the moose lodge near 52nd & keystone
the out back bar (used to be the bar connected to the broad ripple steak house)
india community center
mugwumps
modern times
rhino's
second story
bluebird
mars
oliver's
dharma emporium
fall creek park pavilion
melody inn
flying tomato (muncie)
33 steps
the fountain room
radio radio
the underground (on 16th street across from O.P.s)
the upper room
blue velvet ? (tufty's place on b.r ave., short lived saw steve kawolski there)
there was a place where chumly's is now and was once an italian restaurant on b.r. ave.
the wellington

the super secret spot aka mike farmer's place
ct pepper's

I drove by the old Dharma Emporium yesterday and they have ripped off the roof and ceiling on that building. Couldn't tell if it was a fire or a collapse.

no real order or time line here, just a random list off the top of my head....

i would love to see a venue go in at the site of the old coconut records/sunflower market. more in the fountain square area would be cool.

i am fucking insulted that the Secret Location has not been mentioned.
25th & Broadway was, for a long time, the only non-rental all ages spot in the city.
from stories and asides, the history goes back to 1996 (i know it doesnt seem that long ago, but it is)
everything from west coast experimental hardcore to swedish dream pop, that place saw it all.
too many neighbors around for shows now, but really some of the best parties ive ever been to, lived through, cleaned up after, and miss.

I think that Blake Babies played there twice, once upstairs and once down.

Yeah, the basement show was at night, the upstairs show was a Sunday afternoon gig, and I think they did a 15-hour drive to get there for the latter. They were both great shows...hey, you haven't even mentioned bringing Henry Rollins to Mugwumps, Jeff. Yank Rachell used to play in the basement there as well (last musician from the Anth of American Folk Music still alive when that set got reissued in '97).

Looks like Herron already got mentioned--I remember Tin Lounge (Jeff Sample era) playing there in the fall of '89.

- The Secret Spot in Broad Ripple

well, it wasnt quite broad ripple. i dont know who considers south of 38th broad ripple. not to be a dick, but the house wasnt known commonly as a spot rather than a location. im not as offended by it being mentioned by its wrong name as much as that no one else mentioned it. youre one person but that house had thousands of shows.

well, to those who have never been there, it's kind of a myth.. which is neat, i think. I always had heard it was in broad ripple.. i wasn't quite sure the location.. as it was the secret venue. and I said spot, because well.. to me it was a spot to have secret shows.. spot, venue, location.. it's all good. maybe one day i'll go there.

My favorite of all time was the Art Academy...Whipping Boy, Die Kruezen there in particular...

was it Ceasar's where the Bad Brains played?

what was that crazy warehouse where the Necros played? we spent alot of time throwing ourselves down a packing chute. best time EVER.

er, Dog College?

now the all-ages shows at Crazy Als make growing up in Indpls the most stellar of experiences...dang, we were lucky.

I'm all for MFT and the artists both making some money whether it's NP or not. I'm glad there is another way of getting us out there. If I would have sold an album in the 80s, I remember most little labels and artists would be happy to sell their t…

PJ- I thought of that too! I could use a new Ping hat. We aren't too far down the road of the NP thing to turn back. But John is right, if we can find a way to funnel money to artists then I'm all about having MFT make some of that transaction. It…

I tried to watch 100 Ways but I could feel my life force draining. Haven't the Japanese made some horror films about this video?
