Molly asked me to start a 'Whatever happened to..." thread.
I'll start with some Google trace I came up with yesterday. Kirk was in a band with Quentin Oliver from Greencastle. I remember Quentin, so does Burd, and he's in one of Molly's pix of Samhain.
Last night found some news from the University of Iowa indicating that Quentin was headed to the University of Colorado in 2006 to begin his masters in (as I recall) composition and performance on the viola.
With luck, Google will draw him here and he can fill us in.
Here's one for Burd: Where is Tennessee Tim, and where is Maurice?
I saw Tim a couple of years ago with Liz Pace at a Harmony School outdoor event. Tim was trying to kick (I think) a nasty Meth habit. He had been 30 days clean at that point. I don't know his current status but Danielle Urshell told me she had seen him and Maurice walking down 7th (?) street some time ago. I used to run across Maurice about twice a year but I guess we just move in different circles now. I hear sighting reports about him all the time.
This is circa 1990 or so. Stud Barn. The other guy is Humph a very funny Brit who used to visit with his friend Andy. The Brits are coming back to Bloomington this summer after a 15 year hiatus.
Hey Molly,
Brad is the director of Rhino's Youth center. He can be reached through their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/rhinosallagesclub or you can contact him through his MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/bradwilhelm
I see him at Harmony all the time, his daughter Samantha is in 2nd grade.
I believe Alonso died in a nursing home sometime in the late 1990's or early 2000's. I'm not sure exactly when. He had been at a place called Fontain Bleu nursing home in 1998-this information was from a very unreliable source though (if anyone remembers an unsavory character named Roy). Aaron Sparks told me he believe 'Zo had died there.
'Zo used to come to Rockit's during the mid 90's and I'd feed him and let him hang out, often giving him a ride to his "Cousins" house up on the Hill or to Aarons house. He was in really bad shape then, he'd fall down frequently and not be able to get up. It was really sad.
He claimed through most of the later '80's and beyond that he had "Cancer" but I suspect the Dark Eyes Vodka played a bigger role in his demise. I called Fontain Bleu once but they couldn't give out patient information, this was a few years back-2004 maybe. I don't know if anyone else has heard anything-I'd love for it all to be untrue-I was really fond of Alonso.
I see Danielle and Al all the time-I could give you their emails-write me at Kburd1967@aol.com. I'm not sure if they'd be cool with me posting them. Their kids also go to Harmony. Izzy is in High School (Senior?) and Mars their son is in 1st grade.
That's so cool! Danielle and I were in the same art classes in 84-85 at IU. I crashed and burned where that was concerned and she did not. Somewhere, I still have her self-published book of poetry and art. Is Al her husband/other half? What's his last name? (I probably know him, but I'm drawing a blank on first name alone.)
Dude, remarkably, I do not disagree with a thing here. Your link someplace to a study noting that ISPs might provide licensed streaming as a churn-cap move sounded like the way I think it will all work out - the industry is stupid and anti-consumer…
Wow - just a little south and east of where I grew up, on Layton Rd just west of the Edgewood golf course.
On a related note, is there anything in Anderson besides liquor stores, check cashing joints, abandoned storefronts, and church camps? Especi…
"In other words, my good friends at MFT have invited me to set myself up to look like a total idiot in ten years."
I know just what you mean. Ten years ago, I was telling anyone who cared to listen that if we elected George H. W. Bush's son to the o…
Yeah, of course there are other tastemakers - I vaguely mention that we all have our own filtering mechanisms and that will continue. Social networking and blogs will become more and more important - as will ways of communicating that we can't conce…
Hey John, since you are the only person I know who would know:
Are the models that drive satellite radio producing any revenue for the artist? You don't mention satellite services but to me, not having one, it seems to be a logical evolution to bet…
I predict that labels may not go away, but they will become less important--as will traditional broadcast radio. Ten years from now we will all have internet-based radio in our cars. And the taste-maker-gate-keepers may not all be labels. They might…
