A friend in a band in Prague wants to press a 4-song EP onto vinyl.
Does anybody have any idea about how many minutes can fit on each side of a 7-inch 45 rpm vinyl record without horrible sound degradation? Is 6 minutes possible per side? Seven minutes per side?
If the speed is dropped down to 33 rpm, any ideas on time limit per side? Also, recommendations as to how long a 7-inch 33 rpm and/or 45 rpm can be before the sound quality goes horrible?
Finally, if anybody has any good tips, contacts for an affordable vinyl pressing project in this age? Many thanks for all help!!! Ra Bob
I think you want to shoot for 5 minutes at 45 and 8-9 at 33. You lose quality at 33 and you lose quality when you go over 4-5 minutes for 45 RPM. If you do 33 then you are pretty much throwing sound quality out the window.
I love RTI for pressing but they have a huge backlog right now. There is a company in the Czech Republic that does good work, I can't remember their name right now but more people are using them.
Thanks Jeb, I have already passed your thoughts on to Johnny Feelings from "Tower of Dudes." It is well appreciated. Let me know if you think of the name of that Czech pressing plant as it will be very easy to hook up with them from here. Thanks again!
