Yeah, Free Energy was my favorite of the six, but I'm a sucker for glam and power pop and their songs reminded me of Sweet, Badfinger, ELO, Nick Lowe, early Joe Jackson, Thin Lizzy, '70s Petty, Mott the Hoople, etc. Good times.

If only it were actually at the Pit Stop. Or, as the story leads us to believe based on the bare text, the Other Bar, located next door to the old Pit Stop. Seriously, good on ya for putting on this event. A few of these are on my personal must-see…

I doubt the dude in the western shirt is very happy about this photo, whereby it appears that the creature from Alien is about to tear through the flesh of his face. Or about being gently chin-caressed by Moz. Or about singing a duet with Chris Swan…

I read it the same way...I became confused by the positive prose that followed - I assumed what would follow was that the music totally sucked. Glad to hear this sort of thing is happening in B'ton.

Ha! Oh man... if Mark read this I hope he didn't take it that way; he was awesome! Of course, I was referring to the temperature in the house in that paragraph, but now that you point it out I see how it could be misinterpreted. Maybe this comment w…

"When Mark Allen started playing, it became apparent that the freedom to smoke squares was probably not the only factor keeping music fans outdoors." You may want to reconsider this sentence. It sounds like you're saying his playing was driving peo…

About Me
I'm the local music director for a community radio station, WFHB in Bloomington Indiana, and a music programmer who has a degree in journalism and no job in journalism. My main intent in joining this site is to write previews/reviews of shows in my town and perhaps in Indy. I go out often and figure I might as well get some practice at writing in the process. On a more practical level, I'm hoping to recruit new local music for our radio station.

Pit Stop Music Marathon: The First Weekend

This last Saturday the evening temperature was breaking 40 degrees for the first time in a few months, and the Bloomington streets were filled weekend revelers. On north Walnut, college kids grooved to the “sublime" sounds of imitation at the Bluebird. A bachelorette and her posse were headed to Brothers Bar and Grill to presumably obtain a stranger's underwear, show her bra to a different stranger, and then down a ton of shots with all the strangers. A drunk guy was being briskly escorted up th… Continue

I’m the local music director for WFHB, in Bloomington. We are always looking for quality, current local music to play on our station. We have a local music show every Wednesday night. It is a two-hour block of programming that takes place from 9pm to 11pm and features music exclusively from Indiana musicians past and present. Within that program time there is a half hour devoted to live performances of featured guests called “L… Continue

Austin Lucas - Southern Indiana Hills and House Shows

I’ve been to a lot of house shows over the last nine years that I’ve been in Bloomington. Sometimes these shows are incredible and fill me with hope for the future of local music in this town. Other times they make me wonder why I didn’t stay home and finish whatever movie Comedy Central is playing, e.g., Coming to America, and enjoy the musical flourishing of Sexual Chocolate instead of braving the rain. The Sunday after Thanksgiving, Austin Lucas, with the help of Mark Allen and Mike Hale made… Continue

This is Mars Needs Women's, first band name. We got our flyers torn down Kirkwood by some Jaycee guy I remember, wearing his little red vest.

I'm all for MFT and the artists both making some money whether it's NP or not. I'm glad there is another way of getting us out there. If I would have sold an album in the 80s, I remember most little labels and artists would be happy to sell their t…

PJ- I thought of that too! I could use a new Ping hat. We aren't too far down the road of the NP thing to turn back. But John is right, if we can find a way to funnel money to artists then I'm all about having MFT make some of that transaction. It…

I tried to watch 100 Ways but I could feel my life force draining. Haven't the Japanese made some horror films about this video?
