RIP Lumpy. I'm sorry we never got together as we'd planned to. You are missed.

Yeah, Free Energy was my favorite of the six, but I'm a sucker for glam and power pop and their songs reminded me of Sweet, Badfinger, ELO, Nick Lowe, early Joe Jackson, Thin Lizzy, '70s Petty, Mott the Hoople, etc. Good times.

I guess I was confused about your perceived attack because all I was saying was that the times I've been there, I haven't been impressed. I didn't badmouth the scene or anyone in it. I'll admit that the bulk of the times I've been in Indy to see a b…

Less than two years ago, I spent every cent I had to move back to Bloomington from Chicago to take care of my father who died two weeks later and have been stuck here since, unemployed and too broke to relocate. My opinion of Indianapolis has little…

Yeah. Most people define a city by the visits they have there and that's usually over a weekend's time. If several of those people feel the same way, why are they the wrong ones? I've never been to a Hooters anywhere and the bulk of my visits to Ind…

It seems that most of the people praising Indy have lived there at some point. As a casual visitor, I've always found the art and culture kind of forced and the city itself (even the alleged hot spots) pretty boring. Even the "cool" neighborhoods an…

Pete's Posters

Hello to anyone who sees this post. Those of you not around Bloomington may have missed Pete Schreiner's awesome poster retrospective at Boxcar, which was definitely a highly nostalgic trip for me and I imagine would be for many of you as well. I didn't take photos of every poster, but I got quite a few and uploaded them to Flickr and thought you all might like to check them out here. I want to go back… Continue

All the power to me.

Holy crap! I was rummaging through an old box and just found this old United States Three sticker, backing still affixed. When the weather breaks, this is so going on my car.

Liza talks about music.

In general, I'm pretty ambivalent about the burgeoning indie/alt-country/mope/nerdfolk genre. I'm aware of the bands (Okkervil River, Fleet Foxes, Akron/Family, Blitzen Trapper, Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, etc.) and like a few songs here and there, but I just can't get myself into their full albums. That said, In the past 48 hours, I have found myself impressed with two bands of said ilk that really intrigue me: Delta Spirit and Welcome Wagon. I saw… Continue

Help save Bitch magazine!

I'm not gonna lie, Bitch magazine (http://bitchmagazine.org) has infuriated me on several occasions, but it's also taught me about a lot of cool things and challenged my opinions. It has been a resource I've used to find quality books, films and music, and I wouldn't want it to go away.

yes - i recognize you from myspace, right? anyway, thanks very much for your interest in my stuff - appreciated. i'm excited about music right now. its encouraging to see the new record getting so much attention here in LA.

if you have any thoughts/suggestions about where might be a good place for me to try to book a solo gig in chicago at the moment, i'd love to hear them. if not, no worries... just tossing that out there.

also, you have a big indie rock festival there every year now too, right?

i actually lived in chicago for a few years in the 90's - lots of things to love about that town. i have a lot of friends there. it would be nice to come do a show.

cheers and, you know, rock on.

It took me a minute to realize what you were talking about, but I was indeed Painted Jaguar.

How the hell did you remember that?

I'm instantly and completely floored by the all but forgotten memory of that production.

Wow. Good times.

I'm now trying to remember more names from my theatre days at IU.

I'm all for MFT and the artists both making some money whether it's NP or not. I'm glad there is another way of getting us out there. If I would have sold an album in the 80s, I remember most little labels and artists would be happy to sell their t…

PJ- I thought of that too! I could use a new Ping hat. We aren't too far down the road of the NP thing to turn back. But John is right, if we can find a way to funnel money to artists then I'm all about having MFT make some of that transaction. It…
