Lumpy Repellent ( Repellents, Primates, Pizzle, etc.) suffered a massive heart attack last night! Lumpy was taken off life support this evening. R.I.P. Lumpy!

Chris Cruzan is organizing a tribute/memorial for Lumpy in Indianapolis at Birdy's. I will keep all posted here, as soon as I have more info. If you have a band that wants to play, leave me your info and I'll forward it to Chris. Once again, Lumpy was an integral part of the Indiana music scene, played in many bands, was a guitar…

Indy Rocks? Could Indianapolis support an all music news publication?

Myth #1: They predicted the DEATH of vinyl record albums!

Myth #2: They predicted the DEATH of the independent record store!

Myth #3: They predicted the DEATH of the rock band!

Myth #4: They predicted the DEATH of the rock club, that supports original music!

Myth #5: They predicted the DEATH of music related print media!

Indianapolis still possesses all of the above, with the exception of Myth # 5, which in my thirty year… Continue

Retro Band of the Week the Repellents from Anderson, Indiana early 80's

The Repellents have a vinyl LP coming out soon on Rave Up Records, Italy soon!

Anderson Indiana’s Repellents came together in November of 1981 after a particularly fun and inspiring night out at Crazy Al’s, a restaurant and bar in the Broadripple section of Indianapolis, Indiana. The show featured Dayton, Ohio’s Toxic Reasons and… Continue

Copy and paste review of "Red Snerts" from New York Rocker 1981 for P.J. and link to ebay auction! "I even figured out this tiny url"

So which would you rather be: unknown or "immortalized" by Breaking Away? If the 16 bands on the Red Snerts (anagram: Rent Dress, get it?) sometimes seem a little too foot-shufflin' unassuming - and they do - it's at least not hard to figure why. The Gizmos sing "The Midwest Can Be Allright" (but not too often, I guess, or they wouldn't've moved to NJ). The liner notes solicit correspondence with the query: "Like those bands?… Continue

Hi Marvin. Nope, still not on facebook, who knows, maybe we'll get on sometime. As far as the Repellents record goes, it kept getting pushed back and I got tired of following up and touching base...Too much of a pain in the ass. As much as I'd like for it to see the light of day, I just don't have the persistence to stay in anybody's face about it. Once Lumpy died I lost just that little bit more of a desire to proceed. I'd have liked for him to see it put out.

I'm doing fine! How are you?

Hi Marvin!

Hey, did you get married earlier this year ? I know you said you were going to, but hadn't heard anything since.

Hope you're doing great, man.

Hi Marvin.

Well, I can say that I do not miss committing to going to practice every week and I don't miss my ears taking a beating and I don't miss going out to see so many bands anymore. I fact, the last show I went to, Guitar Wolf (who I love a lot), was so chock full of assholes, I didn't enjoy it at all and left early.

However, I do miss having that instant gratification of a creative outlet. There's really nothing else like music that feeds that thing inside me. All the other creative pursuits, painting, drawing, writing, etc., don't have the same spontaneous, ephemeral and transcendent quality that makes making music so satisfying. The other creative endeavors are so insular. You know, you just do it by yourself and then maybe share it later. With music, there's something about interacting with other people that makes it  a shared experience. When things come together and work it's just some sort of alchemy. At least for me, since I am no singer / songwriter type, and I don't sit around and play any instrument on my own.

I have played with a friend of mine a couple of times and it feels really good and natural, so we're playing out at a Pub on July 9th.

I'm a bit embarrassed.

A Dow Jones show would do well in Boston.

Just sayin'.

OK Marv, all of my once-obscure original vinyl is up for sale. As long as there's been a reissue. Buyer has to include the latest version in the deal. Anybody interested, I'll put it on eBay, and may the richest punk win. I'll even throw in a letter of authenticity, because yes I was immortalized by "Breaking Away"
