Michael Eugene Henry commented on Kurt/Yukki's blog post What's Going?
"I think we covered some of the content transitioning to another (non Ning) platform awhile back. But it is good to be reminded that it all will still be here. To be honest, it just seemed like it was me, Kurt and Kevin and a handful of others who…"

Michael Eugene Henry commented on PJ Christie's blog post Indiana's Music Archive : Arson Garden
"I'm going out on a limb (or a stalk) but I think midwestern guitars have to be heard through a cornfield. Instead of turning them up to eleven we just make sure the ten is louder (and add a tremolo). Alright, I don't know what he means…"

Michael Eugene Henry commented on Jon Rogers's blog post Indiana Music Archive: Sardina
"I just remember time would stand still when I watched them play live. There was a feeling that something important was happening in those moments and there was something bigger waiting. I know you guys were more than a little frustrated with the…"

Michael Eugene Henry commented on Mark Andrew McWhirter's blog post Extremely Underappreciated Music: Dion (1975)
"I really liked the first song (title track i think) but the two or three after started to get a little dry for me. I'll come back to it for sure. Phil Spector is hit or miss with me. Good post. I keep forgetting how many acts back in the…"

Worst Music/Band/Performer/Act Ever to Exist

We all have these opinions and need to vent our frustrations. Sometimes being nice to your neighbor means biting your tongue when they wax poetic about music and musicians you think have no redeeming value other than if they were to die in a fiery car crash. Are these…

Female Artists in Rock; Blues and Gospel Origins

Apparently there is a big gap in content on this site. There seems to be next to nothing on Blues and Gospel, except some isolated comments here and there. Rock is great, but it wouldn't exist were it not for Blues, Gospel and other genres. I'm also a huge fan of female musicians and vocalists, many are featured here at MFT. I miss XX chromosome input on music which moves my soul. So here it goes.

Social Consciousness in Music

I'm sitting here listening to "The Flesh Failures/Let The Sun Shine In" from the movie soundtrack Hair. The song is haunting. I grew up listening to the Cowsills version and watching the movie, but have never been to a show of the musical. I caught the tail end of a program tonight where Ben Vereen (original cast) was drawing parallels between the time of the Vietnam War and today's situation with war and social/economic inequality. The past few days I have been listening to Black Sabbath's War… Continue

Indiana Musical History and Review

First of all, Jeb asked me to start a blog of this type a couple days ago. Well, I already had one similar to it but no one, including myself, was posting. With all of the hullabaloo regarding New Orleans vs Indiana in sports; It was said by one Rachel Maddow that Indianapolis shouldn't try to compete with New Orleans musically after viewing music video's for both teams on her February 2nd show. I posted this fact on the Mix Tape blog soon after and then the peach cobbler hit the fan. There were… Continue

I haven't been good in keeping up with David Wade, but I hope to write to him soon and get things going again.

John Hartford! I should have known that - my boss at Karma Records (J R Reed, whom I think is on here too) is a big fan.

Just read the Ben Ishmael blog and here's a reward for you http://www.cabiz.net/heartlink/illinois_stones.htm I too can Google Fu! I read about this years back and it sent me on a research trail that has yet to come full circle.

Michael Hurtt, not sure what high school. He's a bit younger than me so i think he must have graduated high-school around 1986. I think he stayed in town for a bit at Notre Dame before coming to Bloomington in '87 or '88 - he and I were in Modock together in 88-89-90 before he moved to NO from Bton in like '95.

After Modock he and Matt Uhlmann led (and still do, on and off) the Royal Pendletons. He's Memphis/NOLA based these days. I think Matt is full-time New Orleans currently.

I can't remember his brother's name. Anyway just wondered if you'd crossed paths with him.

I'm trying to find out who the guy was that rode around on riverboats all the time and wrote songs about the rivers. My grandfather was a boat captain and loved this guy's music. It was the 70s and possibly 60s. I'm told Glenn Campbell sang a couple of his tunes. Its driving me nuts.

Thanks for the shout . . .

I'm not coming up with any names for your folk singer. A couple guys on here who might know are Mike Wybark and Stephen Canner. You've got me thinking, though. If I run across the name I'll definitely let you know.
