I am lame. You know I never got back to you much but I felt bad about it. Admitting you have a problem is the 1st step. I am in PA visiting my mom and taking some R&R. My family is doing well and I am elated to be not working for a week. We are gong to St. Loise for the weekend (10-12 of July) for a friends wedding. That should be pretty fun. Was thinkkng about the mid west crew and of course you are on the top of the list (wipping away tears)

So, Beth is teaching art? That's awesome. I originally thought I wanted to be a high school art teacher, but the HS kids in our valley (and LA County, generally) were quite hardcore when I first moved up here. I started subbing elementary when I wasn't able to get any work as a designer or illustrator after moving from San Diego, and really enjoyed it. I feel so honored, being part of what gives our kids a good start. After 13 years, my first students (who were sixth graders) have gone on to be actresses, videographers, political organizers, farriers, doctors of physical therapy, and some have become statistics...one Marine, killed in Fallujah, another boy who died young missing a curve on a dark highway...I feel such a connection to this community, and this area, that I never thought I'd have. Certainly not in any way I'd imagined. Growing up is scary and overrated, but perspective is cool!
I haven't played the bass in years. I sold my bass about eight years ago to the bassist for a local psychobilly band, the Detonators. They play hot rod shows and honkytonks around here--three teachers. I've been taking piano lessons with my youngest daughter, though, and I've been really enjoying them. I'm finding that I have more of an ear for music than I'd ever given myself credit for--I now have the vocabulary to describe what I'm hearing, what I'm doing, etc. Very cool.
