Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of the 1990s

I have to say I agree with much of their list. I haven't had time to pick it apart but thought it would be fun to post on this site to see what people thought, what they would have changed or find ridiculous.

I enjoyed the little side observation on the death of the album on the Radiohead review.

"The end of the 90s will be seen as the end of the album."

I'm not sure I agree but there is no doubt that digital music has transformed how bands think of releases.…

This new site uses the same platform, Ning, that MFT uses for the community areas of this site. So check it out, create and account and you will get updates on the Fest.…

BBC: "Artists head for MySpace 'exodus'" (30 Sept 2008)

According to a recent article from the BBC news service, "Independent record labels have cried foul after failing to reach a deal for their acts to appear on MySpace Music." The article quotes Bob Frank of Koch Records, "MySpace continually states that it is embracing the independents—it's a pretty listless and cold embrace." [more at LINK]

(Me, I like MFT.)

Original MFT Posts from 2004-2005

Thought some of you might find this interesting. I was responding to the "Mr Banner" thread (egads!) and thought I should post this on the "new" site since they didn't carry over. I will try to dig up more archives going forward. Here is a link to the Way Back page for the old site c.2005. Thanks, Jeb

Updated 2/3/05

I have added almost all of Emperor Penguin's catalog to the site. EP is Bill Cameron (Winechuggers, Brown Betty, Sardina etc.) and Carl Saff (Pencil, Neutrino,… Continue

Quick Review: TV On The Radio "Dear Science"

TV On The Radio may have just released the album of the year. This record resonates in so many strange ways that it feels almost prescient like Wilco's "Yankee Foxtrot Hotel" did after 9/11. This album seems to address the current melt down and political silly season head on like a prophetic play by play.

It isn't all doom and gloom, there is a groove throughout all of the negativity. And they don't forget to part the clouds to dance and make… Continue

9pm, only 5 bones. Orange Opera plays the psych-pop jamz out of Ft. Wayne. Everything, Now! plays a bunch of songs off of their upcoming MFT Records LP.… Continue

How to add Bands or Music to the MFT Archive

Since this is a question that I'm asked pretty often via email I thought I should just post a quick blog on the topic.

In case you are wondering what the MFT Archive is, check it out here, or click on the Bands link above. Basically, it's the core of the site and was started in 2004 in an attempt to document Indiana original music before it slipped into the ether. There are 400+ bands, 1000s of MP3s for stream or… Continue

(Why am I asking for it if I've… Continue

Did you know there was a Punk Rock Night in Bloomington?

Every Monday night in Bloomington, Uncle Fester's hosts a Punk Rock Night. Since the definition of Punk Rock is pretty dynamic these days you get a broad range of bands, many of them local and some touring bands as well. Recently the club moved the starting time up an hour to accommodate old fellas like myself who like the punk rock but have to get up for work in the morning (doors at 9:00).

I go to Punk Rock Night pretty regularly and my band plays there often as well. There seems to be a… Continue

Episode #4 - Live at The Strand Theatre - Shelbyville

Jethro Easyfields talks about his new project "Elixir" and Mike Mossey who is currently working on a documen… Continue

Everything Ted

What can I say? The group featured on the long awaited GBS 160 is one of my favorite local groups, "Everything, Now!". They have a new album coming out in November and guess what? The Good Beer Show gets to play some songs off of it first. Beers sampled on the show were Budweiser American Ale, Brugge Triple the Ripple and EN!'s leadman's homebrew. This beer was fantastic! I want the…

Pizzle's Earlham Story

Frankie Camaro had requested that I post this so here it is as it appeared in Gigs From Hell(Headpress/2003) plus the super special bonus letters. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have started so many paragraphs with the word "we." Anyway, the editor of said book entitled our bit:

Quaker Breaker

We were booked to play the Tazza Cafe at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana on Friday September 22, 1995 and brought our pals AxPx to open. Earlham, as it turns out, is… Continue

I'm Talking About Lame Excuses to Get on Your Guest List

Most of us have been around long enough that we've been asked to put people on our guest list. Some of the excuses will range from friends who have no money to help you pay for your gas and talent, but need money for smokes and beer, to seriously demented excuses why they need to get into the show.

The last time I wanted to be comped for a show, it was through my friend who works with Wilco and it was my birthday. The show was sold out and I really wanted to go, so even though I had… Continue
