I stopped by the DAV thrift store in the Irvington Plaza, just a wee bit East of Arlington on Washington, earlier today. About 10 years ago or so this was the best place to find LPs; I found stuff like 13th Floor Elevators and rare Jazz and odd German pressings of 70s prog records, all for .45 cents and would find great stuff at least twice a week.
It has been dead for quite a while and I never stop anymore. Maybe a year ago I found a nice mono copy of the first Fugs LP and a month back I found a mono copy of an early Beach Boys but it is a pale imitation of its former self.
Anyway.....
Having just read John Sheets post on the Zerfas LP when I was stopping at the Marsh supermarket this afternoon i thought, oh what the hell. At first I was very excited. Where there are usuall a couple small stacks of LPs there were a dozen or so crates, all full.
I know nothing about 12-inch singles, nothing. There are about 3 billion of them there, most are in what look to be unplayed shape. Mostly hip hop and R&B, I notice some things of Def Jam but other than that you're on your own. If you ask me for details here is what I will tell you: I am 99% sure they are all 12 inches in diameter. And many of them are on black vinyl.
I also left a decent original brown label A&M copy of my favorite Judy Collins LP "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" that Steven Stills plays on - great record, and a white label promo on A&M of a Lee Michaels LP with a very clean disc. I have the Collins and don't really care for Lee Michaels.
Anyway.... If anyone goes and finds a bunch of $400 beats 12 inchers all i ask is that you send me some money or never mention it in a "LOOK WHAT THAT IDIOT LEFT!!!" post.
