MFT MIXTAPE - FEB 2010 - Download Here: http://bit.ly/dd3qOH

1 - Margot and the Nuclear So & So's - Birds
An MFT exclusive track from the upcoming Margot full length "Buzzard"

2 - *The Academy - Magic
The lead track from their classic, unreleased album. Hopefully this album will be put out soon with the band playing out again

3 - Elsinore - Chemicals
The title track for their recent EP release. This band is based in Champaign, but they've found a nice home away from home here in Indy. Super charming and lush pop songs with 5 part harmonies.

4 - The Bears of Blue River - Crayola
A great new band from Muncie/Indy/Chicago. Produced by Tyler Watkins and Richard Edwards at Queensize.

5 - Accordions - Junkyard
A new Indy band with connections to many other local bands. Upcoming MFT band of the month for Feb.

6 - Kate Lamont - Surplus
A new track from Kate's upcoming record which we are loving. Recorded by Vess Ruhtenberg at Queensize.

7 - America Owns the Moon - Freak Out
Super early/rough mix from their upcoming full length release also being recorded at Queensize this time by Jeb and Andy Fry.

8 - Prizzy Prizzy Please - Large Hadron Collider
An unreleased track from their upcoming release on Joyful Noise. These guys are one of the hottest bands around right now.

9 - *Extra Blue Kind - Out of My Hands
A classic track, also produced by Vess (with LonPaul as well) at Queensize. If you haven't listened to the EBK album do so now.

10 - *Dust From 1000 Years - Bad Thing
Indie rock at its best. Great, mellow song with good production and performance.

11 - *Finn Swingley - April Storms
Finn has been writing songs for about 20 years and this is one of his best. Produced by Carl Saff.

12 - *Holographic Angels - Sugar Shivers
A great band from up north that dissolved a few years ago but I think one of the members is now in The Accordians.

13 - Jookabox - Don't Go Phantom (Yeti One Remix)
From the brand new remix remix EP from Asthmatic Kitty / Audio Recon. Remix done by Yeti One of local hip-hop group, Twin Monster.

14 - Mudkids - DO IT AGAIN (Go Colts '10)
The Mudkids are at it again with a new anthem for the Colts 2010 Super Bowl run! Go Colts!

15 - *The Knievils - Roll, Roll, Roll
Back in Bloomington during the 90s the Knievils would advertise in the newspaper that they would play any party for a case of beer. Their "Mission To Mars" performance was one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I never knew why these guys didn't take off more since their topic matter was highly relevant for a college town.

We've definitely hijacked this thread as instructed by Commander Whybark.

I seriously love live music of all flavors, anytime anywhere. I heartily endorse these bands.

yes, Indiana radio is mostly horrible, really really bad but radio doesn't matter much anymore. In a couple years we will all be streaming any radio station from anywhere anywhere we want, mark me words!

But WITT is starting to pick up steam here in Indy, just need to get a little more powerful (it's like Indy's WFHB).

I was razzing PJ, sorry, sometimes my/our inside office humor doesn't come across online

"Who the hell is Mute Math?"

Jeb. Come on. If they were from Indiana people here would be drooling all over their ass. I'm not exactly "in the loop", as far as contemporary indie rock goes, but even I know who this band are? Is?. They're not that great, but yeah, people on this site would probably love em.

Good post down there PJ.

Also, Indiana radio...Is it still horrible?

Admittedly, I am spoiled here.

Who the hell is Mute Math?

You are correct about blues and jazz, NOLA has Ind beat for sure but I'll put our little Indie scene up against anyone.

No less an authority but Wikipedia says that Mute Math's first album sold 100,000 copies. Is there a band from Indiana who has sold more records than that?

Because then I could mention Better Than Ezra, and The Radiators.

Rap includes, um, a little label called Cash Money Records, Master P, Lil Wayne.

HEYY! Get in there and throw some punches in every direction, PJ!

Oh man I've been looking in the wrong places for controversy.

Someone writes they can't think of "one noteable band to come out of NOLA in the last decade." That's just so fucking wrong.

Music in New Orleans is everyday all the time. It is not something to consume in bars on weekends. Is everybody clear on that?

Another thing is you have thousands of musicians who live without day jobs, record deals, managers, or any other visible forms of subsistence other than family members. But when you are a musician in New Orleans you have a position of respect in your family and neighborhood.

In the debate between Indy and New Orleans as livable cities, debates can happen. Values are different.

But bands, New Orleans has you beat. My guess is Mute Math outsold any Indiana band last year, nobody in Indiana was weirder than Quintron, and not one blues band in Indianapolis would rise above the level of respectable. In NO, there are 100 competent funk bands, 12 outstanding. There are hundreds of jazz musicians. There are people playing music in the street that would blow your mind. Grammy winners every night of the week.

You cannot hear good music on the radio in Indianapolis. Not like WWOZ.

If Jeb invited me, I'd probably do something noise-related. Though perhaps--since it's a mix 'tape,' I'd select noise for 'side' A and more contemplative songs for 'side' B... (as it were)

PJ just weighed in on FB: " Fact: Indianapolis does not have packs of wild dogs running through the streets."

I think he's keeping his head down. Maybe Bart should curate a mix too!

Here doggy!

I'm all for MFT and the artists both making some money whether it's NP or not. I'm glad there is another way of getting us out there. If I would have sold an album in the 80s, I remember most little labels and artists would be happy to sell their t…

PJ- I thought of that too! I could use a new Ping hat. We aren't too far down the road of the NP thing to turn back. But John is right, if we can find a way to funnel money to artists then I'm all about having MFT make some of that transaction. It…
