Spencer (Shecky) Sundell

The Beatles live at Indianapolis State Fair Coliseum, pt. 2

One of two concerts at the Indianapolis State Fair Coliseum on Sept. 3, 1964, during The Beatles' second US tour.

Originally shot on 16mm (what everyone used for news in those days) by WISH-TV for a local special, "Our Fair Beatles," which aired on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1964. The concert was also broadcast live on WIFE-AM. The announcer at the beginning is Jerry Baker, from that station.

The material has apparently circulated on bootlegs for years. These vids appear to be of an attempt to sync a recording of the radio broadcast with various surviving snippets from the film footage.

The original WISH-TV special was publicly shown for the second time ever on July 29, 2008 at the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library, downtown.

My Dad and Aunt are in there, somewhere. My Grandparents were standing outside the coliseum right before the show, taking in the hooplah when a limo pulled up and the Beatles all jumped out and ran, frantically, to the backstage door. I guess my Grandparents were pretty bemused by the whole thing.

I went to a Beatles Fest in Louisville. It was tons'o'fun and hilariously dorky. Long story short, George's sis was hawking a book called "Before He Was Fab". The book was about George's visit to her in the USA before the Beatles set foot. Neat book (I bought it) and I waited in line to meet her. She beckoned me over and I sat in a chair and we chatted. She was sad about her brother's recent passing but otherwise upbeat and positive; you could tell she really loved her little bro.
The only uncomfortable moment came when I mentioned that I had recently met Pete Best, the original drummer (he played at the Buskirk Chumley - quite fun as well).
Her face clouded over and she fairly hissed, "That man has no personality as all!"
I was a bit startled, and changed the subject.
In retrospect it would appear I got some glimpse behind the curtain - you know, that all these people were on a first name basis and they weren't celebrities, they were real people to each other.
Interesting.
That's it!

Wow. That's great! My daughter will freak out - she's a huge Beatles fan. In fact, John, she has stated that one of her dreams is to meet Ringo or George (guess Paul is outa luck), so we'd love to hear the GH sister-meetng stoy sometime!

You can find the graphics info on Bootlegzone for the cd - I'd like to get my hands on the actual concert disc itself. The sound quality is reasonable, even good. By the way I met George Harrison's sister - it was very strange. She was quite chatty.

I'm all for MFT and the artists both making some money whether it's NP or not. I'm glad there is another way of getting us out there. If I would have sold an album in the 80s, I remember most little labels and artists would be happy to sell their t…

PJ- I thought of that too! I could use a new Ping hat. We aren't too far down the road of the NP thing to turn back. But John is right, if we can find a way to funnel money to artists then I'm all about having MFT make some of that transaction. It…

I tried to watch 100 Ways but I could feel my life force draining. Haven't the Japanese made some horror films about this video?
