Whiting used to be one of the many places the 16-year-old me could easily buy liquor sans ID. I doubt that's a ringing endorsement to the types who can help the situation in any way, but it helps me remember it (somewhat) fondly.

Kudos to you for helping Whiting; the proposed HB1001 is a terrible piece of legislation. Until very recently the legislation proposed taking away local funding (opted for by local representatives on County Councils if their constituents demanded---as they have in Monroe County) for people with disabilities. There was no proposed replacement plan for the funding stream. That piece of the idiotic "bipartisan" authored legislation was only taken out a few weeks ago. And finally, the regressive sales tax being proposed as "reform" is particularly onerous to me--and to many of my Progressive Democratic colleagues down here in Monroe County. Who will feel that the most? Certainly not the wealthy---but the average income earners and working families will feel that hurting their daily lives for sure.

The website link to Save Whiting has some very nice memories that people have shared; I'll try to learn more while here in the midst of wondering how this is all going to impact Monroe County as well. We are very anxious about what is going to be passed.
