Indiana MP3 Archive and Online Community

I have been thinking about a documentary for some time that draws upon the whole nature of the MFT site. I grew up in Broad Ripple during the 90s and then moved to IU for school and experienced what I consider (bias?) to be one of the most unique periods in the Indiana underground scene. The amount of talent that branched out to form what Jeb has so masterfully realized with this site is something that I consider very special. I am currently living in Nashville TN and have started a production company. My partner and I have been considering a project similar to this with Nashville bands but the scope is nowhere close to as big as it could be with bands from Indy.

I am hoping to cull as much archive footage of bands as possible to begin to put pieces together. I have a pretty good sense of the bands I want to include, but I feel like I probably missed out on a lot of great stuff too. I want to see what kind of access to archival footage and photos I might be able to get my hands on and then begin to fill in the holes with interviews and new footage. So, yeah....any thoughts?

as you can probably guess, I think this is a great idea and whatever resources I can throw your way I will be happy to do. This could become a monster almost as much as this site has been but I think it would be well worth it.

I would suggest getting Jason Yoder involved as well, indiana45s.com, since he has a wealth of info and contacts.

Maybe start with the punk scene, Gizmos, Zero Boys and go from there? That's kinda where I see the beginning of the scene that we encountered in Bloomington in the 1990s

cool...yeah, I know that I may have created a monster here but I have been interested in doing a project like this for a while. It is the starting of it that is hard. Trying to put the idea into some perspective right now...but yeah I will be in need of lots of resources at some point. Just thought I would post a blog and see what kind of response I got. I have some other ideas that may work as stepping stones towards a bigger project too.
I thought about doing installments with bands called "Branches" that does a brief history/genealogy of an MFT band and then maybe a "where are they now" type thing with the goal of connecting as many bands/musicians as possible and then putting it together as a larger piece...I don't know . Just brainstorming right now. Hopefully I will get some feedback. Hope all is well with you and the fam.

The CATS/BCAT tape archive would probably be a treasure trove of archival footage of various Bloomington bands, or at least a good starting point.

Ditto what Aaron suggested. Similarly, I know the guys from Rox (rox.com) had footage of various bands that they used periodically in their shows. Might not hurt to get in touch with Bart about that.

I have a lot of footage of bands I have been in, and probably some footage of a lot other screamo acts from the late 90s and early 2000s. I put together a sort of documentary for a band I was in 2003 chronicling our tour of Europe, some interesting stuff there.

I'd also love to help in any way I can. I have some production skills that could be of use.

Let us know andy, we are all behind the idea and there are plenty of us who would help in any way we can.

I think you should start a group- MFT Documentary
or something like that. That way there's a special area to work on this project.
I think lots of peeps would join

awesome! Thanks for the feedback ya'll (I can't help it I live in TN). I am going to start a group here for this project and use it as a place to continue this discussion. I think the next step after that will be to begin the process of choosing which bands to explore for this project. I agree with Jeb that the starting point should be the Gizmos Zero Boys era. But from there things could get tricky. Unfortunately, some bands are inevitably going to get left out of this. So anyway, thanks again and I will keep posting as I move forward with this.
