New Home - New Orleans 2008 Actually an old home which is new to me. It is in the St. Roch/New Marigny; very near the CANO Colton School studios (and everything else). This is a screen shot from a google street view, best straight on image I currently have. It needs some minor restoration and cosm… Continue

10 Predictions for 2009

I don't normally post my Small Box blogs on this site but since this one is a little different and addresses some issues that might be of interest to this community I thought I'd post here too. So what are your predictions for 2009? Here are some of mine.
  1. The Mini-Depression- the economy is going to tank, briefly, then begin a swift recovery. The reason I think we aren't going to have a prolonged depression like the 30s is that we are sma

Punk-Approved Wuss Rock Recordings/HC Classix

I’m currently writing an article on the Zero Boys in celebration of their upcoming catalogue re-issue, which I’m looking forward to posting soon. It’s gotten me to thinking about hardcore more than usual. I recently engaged in an interesting exchange in the comments section of my recent blog post “some random thoughts…” Somehow the subject of Michael Jackson came up. Thus far I’ve generated essentially zero support from my assertion that MJ is a great artist and an important cultural figure - so… Continue

My Favorite Vinyl Releases from 2008

Below are my favorite releases on vinyl from 2008. Naturally this list is limited to releases on vinyl and also ones that I personally own. Overall I would say that 2008 was a weaker year than 2007. Without releases by bands like The Shins, Wilco, etc. there was room for some new names on the list. I consider the first three on this list "must haves" from the last year with all being worthy for at least a spin or two.
Here is a video of m… Continue

The Aged Musician--Drugs

Long time no post... Mostly because not much has progressed since the summer on the musical front here in dirty Jersey. The drummer saga, generally continues. We found a guy who is (was?) really quite good. Young fellow named Jay. Lots of piercings, tats, and black clothes. However, playing slightly against type, he's a very quiet, shy dude. Unfortunately, there have been some negatives around his attendance at our very infrequent practices--though it appears he had some good reasons. As we star… Continue

Classic Doc Martens discontinued...? (end 2008)

To anyone who loves Doc Martens—I think the company is discontinuing some of their classic lines of shoes.

I can't vouch for this 100% but 1.) when I went to a store to get new ones, they said they were sold out of the old models and weren't getting… Continue
