Musical Family Tree Indiana Music MP3 Archive

Indiana MP3 Archive and Online Community

Hi and welcome to Muncie DIY, a discussion group for all things about Muncie, and Music made in Muncie.

Historically speaking, Muncie seems to be the hidden gem in Indiana's musical treasure chest, kinda like a rare sterling silver fork buried near the bottom under the bejewelled chalice that is Bloomington and the ancient engraved golden agricultural tablets of Purdue.

Let us talk of rumors, did The Who really smash their equipment at the fairgrounds in the mid 60s?

Let us praise the NO BAR.

Let us wonder in amazment at the recent Muncie bands like Everthing, Now and Everthus The Deadbeats and all the rest.

Also make sure to stop by the Hello Muncie blog by Bill Zink for lots and lots of muncie lore (33 pages and going strong).

Please invite every one you know, and start a discussion soon.

Well, I meant "hooray for John Scot Sheets -- the man who was central to Muncie DIY before most even heard of the concept." -- At least five years before the marketplace allowed something like No Bar and Grill to happen. Hats off to the trail blazers who made such things possible...

Bob Scally was the first "independent" journalists I ever knew... another trailblazer...

Well John, since no one else is jumping in… I guess one of my favorite memories of Muncie has to be the quarry on Cornbread road. Back in the summer of 85, I visited the quarry every single day. It was our favorite swimming ground. The cliff we favored was about 25 feet tall and we took lot of our friends there to enjoy the plunge. It was a hot, hot, humid summer and the cool waters of the quarry soothed the heated mind. One time Ron & I got attacked by 2 pit bulls and Ron nearly drowned. It was one of the few bad times we had at the quarry. We often encountered the Ninja Boy on our way to the quarry. He was the keeper of the quarry and lurked in the woods that had to be crossed from Shed Town on the path the quarry. We spent many hours throwing ourselves off the limestone cliffs and languishing in the cool waters of the quarry.

I seem to vaguely remember in that summer of '85, one of my favorite things were those fucked up late night drives around Muncie that Mark and I would take (and I am sure a few other folks as well.) We would be high or both and would hop in Mark's car and head to parts of Muncie unknown. I remember seeing some crazy shit and crazy places. I have a feeling Mark may (or course) have photos.

The Muncie Monstrosity tour. I would take all my friends on the tour of the monstrosities when they came to visit.
