D.D. Huffman - a few belated words

This post will likely only be of interest to a handful of people on this forum. This is something I've wanted to write and post in a public forum for some time. It has little to do with music or the music scene, but it ties in with themes of other writings I've posted on this… Continue

Part 25: Career in Rock? (1993)

Freda returned from her macrobiotic retreat shortly before Hideout's release. She’d adopted a macrobiotic diet, and she taught Jake how to follow the principles of the diet as well – including not eating any dairy whatsoever. They drank so much carrot juice that they turned a weird orange color. Freda felt excited to return to the band, which was a little unfortunate because Pat was fully integrated into Antenna. There was nothing wrong with Pat’s drumming or personality, and I felt lousy and a… Continue

Part 24: Hideout (Winter - Summer 1992)

When I returned to Bloomington after spending New Years in San Francisco (among other things, finally seeing Nirvana), my dad promptly kicked me out of the house… Continue

Part 23: Sway (Summer/Fall 1991)

As the Sunburn tour finally wound down in the spring of 1991, Mammoth pressured us to keep touring in support of the newly released Rosy Jack World. We did a vide… Continue

Part 22: Freda Quits (Winter/Spring 1991)

There’s nothing worse about being in a band than being cooped up in a van for months with people you can’t stand to be around. It’s just an awful way to live. I can’t remember who proposed adding a second guitarist to the Blake Babies, but I’m inclined to think I did. We had Stephen Bonner joining us on tour, but still the thought of going out as a trio depressed me. I claimed the purpose was to free me up to do more adventurous guitar playing, but actually I wanted another person to diffuse the… Continue

it's a shame everyone didn't have a deep appreciate of the beatles at that age. yeah, i'm sure our tastes have remained similar. btw, thanks for loaning uncle tupelo's first album to me a long time ago. i still have to get it back to you...ha.

Oh, sorry-I misread that sentence. I must've left the syntax part of my brain asleep that day. I read it as if there were two commas around the 'Fro.'
Anyhow, it would be good to see you and Heather and to meet the chillun's. You do have two kids now, correct?
This site has made me dig around in my photo album for sure. I have some photos somewhere, not only of people from Collins, but also from hanging out in Broad Ripple when I was in high school. Weird memories are definitely flooding back for me. Has this site prompted you to start writing your autobiography? Or was that a goal beforehand?

Hello....although I was too intimidated to meet you back then, I moved to Indy in 93. You were a huge inspiration for me. When I saw Antenna I was so blown away. You used a roto-vibe, I beleive, and you made me think about giving up guitar!!! But thankfully I didn`t...Velo Deluxe should have been fuckin huge. Maybe it is better that it wasn`t. Anyway, this site has been great for me, and I just wanted to let you know how much you inspired me that first summer I was here. I stole one of the Mammoth Records banners at a Patio show, I hope that doesn`t piss anyone off....It was one of my prize possessions until it was stole during a party I had...maybe Sample got it... Oh well, keep being you...Steve Kennan

hey John, only know you kind-of, saw your letter re Brian Friedman's memorial, etc. If you would ever care to share that writing I would like to see it. I was the last person he talked to that day, I didn't go with to get the stereo because I was waiting for a job call-back. I remember that time in detail-- I even remember you at the funeral.
so many times we went fast in the rain on the motorcycle and never died-- it was so hard to accept.

Hey Man,
Thanks for the positives about the musics. I made those in Apple Logic. I made "The Time Draws Near" for Sybil and "Boogibizza" for Alex. Did they sound "ripped"; when I listened to them from the site the sound quality was kind of shitty but I'm not sure why--maybe there's a better way to encode. If you want I could e-mail you mp3s. I'm working on another one.

R.E.M. Accelerate is pretty unbelievable: I'm just listening to that these days.

Another Losing Season…wow…amazing song! Floats through my head frequently.

773-391-9605…I'm not one of the Bluetooth guys with the headsets, though my net worth would probably be much greater if I was, but I'll gladly field the call. What's your cell, man?

Rememeber to make every day a keep smiling day day! : )))
