About Me
...in relation to Musical Family Tree...In 1993 I met one of my best friends, Michelle Marchesseault, who was playing in Sardina at the time. We met while working at a dessert cafe along with our friend Jeff McClellan, formerly of Tin Lounge. A year later I moved to L.A. with Jeff. We shared a room in a two-bedroom apartment in Venice. I got a job at a coffee shop called Van Gogh's Ear where I served omlettes and lattes to a few famous people and met a Rastafarian rapper named Milton. I thought it'd be a good idea to date Milton, so I did. In search of a better paying job, I responded to a nanny ad. The next day, a chubby greasy guy with a pony tail picked me up at my apartment in a white t-top Camaro. I thought maybe he'd take me to lunch to conduct an interview, but instead he drove us to the horse tracks so he could get his bet on. He kept telling me he could get me a high-paying job nannying for James Caan. A few days later my new bike got stolen so I called my parents and they sent me the money to buy a plane ticket home. Little did I know I'd get a legitimate nannying job upon my return. I was so sad to leave Jeff, but anxious to get back to all of my friends in Indy. My move to L.A. turned out to be a summer vacation. Shortly after settling back into life in Indiana, I got a call from Freda Love (Blake Babies, Mysteries of Life). She and Jake were in need of a new nanny and asked if I was interested. My friend Bekkah Walker (Panoply Academy Glee Club) had been their nanny, but she was moving on to new things. She recommended me having known my history of babysitting all throughout jr. high and high school. I decided to take the job after meeting Jake and Freda just briefly a few months earlier when the Mysteries played a show up in Indy. I was ready for a change and the idea of traveling appealed to me. Vess and I moved to Bloomington and toured with the Mysteries in support of their first record out on RCA. Our time in between touring was spent going to shows, primarily in Bloomington and Indianapolis. Vess was still fronting his own band, United States Three, during that time in addition to playing bass with the Mysteries when their bass player, Tina Barbieri, departed to pursue other musical projects. By then, most of my friends and acquaintances were playing in bands. After becoming friends with Freda and being influenced by her style of drumming, I decided I wanted to play drums too. Once my nannying stint with the Mysteries was over, we moved back up to Indianapolis. Vess and LonPaul gave me a few simple drum lessons and soon after I started playing with Vess, as well as Michelle. By that time, Sardina had disbanded and moved back from Chicago. Michelle wanted to continue playing music so she and I would play in her basement for hours. We got our good friend, and her roommate at the time, Ben Shine, to play bass with us. Our first show was as a three-piece at the Scorpio Party, a party to celebrate all of the Scorpio birthdays (me, LP, Jeb, Dana, Jason Ecer, and a few others). Our friends Jeb Banner and Bill Cameron (Brown Betty, Winechuggers) joined us on guitar and keyboards a bit later. Vess also joined us on guitar and the Easy Six was formed. We played some shows but mostly just had fun practicing in LonPaul's basement. During that time I played a handful of acoustic shows at bookstores and coffee shops with Vess. I played on former Indy resident June Panic's record "Horror Vacui" and on a few Vess recordings. Michelle moved to Austin in '99 and I joined her in '00. The first band I played in after moving to Austin was called Champ the Bed. I then went on to play in the Hidden Persuaders with my friends Tim Brown, Jenny Hart, and Jon Bookout. Michelle and I formed a very short-lived duo we called Ivan the Terrible. The HPs recorded a still unfinished record in '05. I met my husband, Aaron, in 2005. We had our daughter, Marin Louise Briggs Beard, on Dec. 22, 2006.

Hi Mindy..Thanks for the note. We cant wait for the baby to be born and know its going to be exciting. I see you live in Austin now. We thought about Austin at one point, but then opted for Atlanta for some reason...Found this site after reading about Lon Paul on Pitchfork, which was weird. Since then spent hours upon hours listening to old MP3 files of my childhood.. Great find!!!
