About Me
My hometown is Mt. Vernon, IN on the banks of the Ohio River, but Bloomington will always be closer to my heart. I lived there from my pivotal college years in the 80s to my early career years in the 90s. I was fortunate to know a lovely, awesome, crazy assortment of people there and sincerely appreciate reconnecting with some of them via this site.

Despite my love for Bloomington, I recognized that I could not make the living I desired there, so I relocated to St. Louis in 1995 with a Bloomington boyfriend. I ditched the boyfriend, but not St. Louis. I feel pretty committed to this city and appreciate its diverse neighborhoods, gorgeous homes, trees/parks, and myriad of Asian restaurants. I do not enjoy its weather (it's severe storm and humidity central) nor its crime...

In St. Louis, I have somehow managed to stumble into a great career in the development/fundraising field with my IU Religious Studies and History degrees. I am presently the Associate Director of Development for Grants for a non-profit legal services organization. I am paid to write and manage grants. It's a great gig. I have an interesting group of friends here (mostly grown-up punks and goths) and we are pretty involved in the local club/music scene. I also belong to a most eclectic bookclub, am involved with animal rights organizations here, and am still a passionate vegetarian and environmentalist (thanks to Bloomington!). I have three felines, a lovely and patient boyfriend, a rambling old house in a grand neighborhood, and a condo that I just cannot seem to bring myself to renting out in St. Louis' oldest neighborhood (somehow just knowing it's there should I need to retreat to it brings me great peace). Life has had its fair share of highs and lows, but, for the most part, I have been relatively happy.
What bands are you or have you been in?

It suddenly got dark outside and I thought to myself (gosh--I lost track of time!) then I realized it was only about 6 pm....I turned the t.v. on and they were broadcasting a warning that a funnel cloud had been spotted on u.s. 50 in lawrenceburg (this is less than a half a mile from my mother's house) then rain was falling SIDEWAYS outside and I realized this was not good. I had two teenage nieces taking a nap on the couch, so I nudged them and said "o.k. girls, we are going to go to the basement right now for a few minutes" (they are raised in california /japan and are used to earthquakes but not tornados!) about this time my sister althea calls me SHE IS IN HER CAR with my sister Janice and is wonder what the *&**$ is going on and how they don't want to get wet (!) so I calmly tell her to not attempt to drive to mom's house (at this point there was a big branch blocking the street!) get out of the car and run to my brother Dewayne's house because there is a funnel cloud spotted. this all occured in about sixty seconds and within ten minutes it was all over. a couple of trees fell down and the neighbors had a big tree branch fall on thier roof.
outside of that I think everything was alright. a little tense there for a minute or two though!!
we had those same storms here last night. I think they all come over from you all.
I'll have to put a bottle with a message in it into the river so it can float downstream and maybe you can keep an eye out for it in Mt. Vernon....Hugs, Matty!

I am here in lawrenceburg visiting mom. lots of chores around house and stuff to help her with, thinking of going to bloomington and maybe chicago this weekend or if I can't then, maybe next week(?) things a little up in the air cause I have many things to catch up on here. had a tornado here the day before yesterday, so that was some excitement!

Yeah, I totally dug the RS department, oddly enough. I took Religious Studies and Forensic studies, as a punk rock curriculum-studying why I hate religion and the law...it proved to be a lot more entertaining then I thought...I wrote a book resulting from my ham-bone education--here's the link--it's sardonic humor--so to speak--

akerman's book is great (religions of ancient israel-i think i found it once online in an out of print website)...other then that, I was taking those classes 82-83/84-then booked to Texas.

So...religious studies actually can land someone work???!!!??

Juliana, I just saw your comment you posted to John T. I remember those days on East 6th. Good times, except for when I forgot to pay the electric bill and the power was cut off. Very sorry about that. St. Louis is a cool city-awesome that you landed there. -lrs

Hi Juliana,
Yes I do remember you. No I haven't been in touch with Lisa since the early 90s. I have talked to Jeanne Marie more recently but even that has been a few years. Glad to hear that life is treating you well. I am playing some music but not as much as I used to. I'm a graphic designer now and have been for 18 years. Nothing too exciting but it pays the bills. Good to hear from you, have a great summer...

The pictures were posted by a woman who goes by several names including Madame Pamita. Here's a link to an article about her:

She is absolutely my new hero. (ine)
