"Hey Mike!" (The Suadetones Post)

RaBob sent me the following (thanks Ron!!!): Ron writes: That post by a friend of Mitch's about Muncie cassettes got me curious... I remember your awesome "The Suadetones" release with Doug. But my memory is foggy on the circumstances of the recordings. (I wasn't there... but I clearly remember first hearing the songs with Jon Rans in the Repeat Performance basement... But I'd also lent my Tascam 22-4 to Jon Rans and Jeff Weiss for an extended period around then.… Continue

Albums That Changed My Life...

Queen "Day at the Races" (1976) Queen "Night at the Opera" (1975) I consider these two seperate albums one "double" record. Essentially these were the first two albums I bought with my own money... saved up my allowance and went to Woolworth's in downtown Noblesville, IN on my bike... as far as i'm concerned there isn't a bad song on either album... The Replacements - "Let It Be" (1984) This album was on the B side of a homemade cassette that had The Dead Milkmen's "Big L… Continue

"What Bands Have You Been In?" (see below)

Played drums (mostly) - but didn't start playing until freshman year in Schmidt Hall on the Ball State University campus... I found a drum kit in a common area in the 9th floor lounge and started playing between introductory art classes. Some dude from 3rd floor had a guitar… Continue

The Singles: West Lafayette Armory Recollection (c. 1987)

The Singles played one and only one show in West Lafayette at an Armory show... I think it was our 2nd to last show as a band... Robert Brian Smith (Girls Can Touch and/or Snake, Baby!) got us on a bill since he was going to school at Purdue. I remember we had an ice-cold miserable van ride over from Muncie. I don't think vans in the 80's had working heaters! We got there and the time line was all messed up and we ended up getting slotted 4 hours later than we expected. The thing that really st… Continue

Girls Can Touch (band) Purdue late-80's

Entry 1 Girls Can Touch: I recorded their one and only 24 track studio (cassette release) session "Happy Dreams" in Minneapolis in the latest 80's/early 90 or 91 (will have to look at the J-card!) - unfortunately the masters were destroyed BUT I have my chrome mixes cassette and hope to digi master them once Mr. Robert Smith (now a father of two!) gives me the thumbs up from Chicago... They were so good... Robert's still playing music (Viepa Cray - check myspace) and he returned the prod… Continue

Mitch and I were grew up together. He lived six houses down from me. We went to grade school to almost high school together. He was hangin' with a bad crowd (my hand is raised) and was sent to another school (he can fill in the details). He was/is a fantastic piano player (classically trained) This story gets stranger. I lived next door to Jeff "NoBar" Weiss my first year at Purdue.

Hey Mike. I grew up with Mitch. He lived down the street from me. We went to grade school - almost high school together. He was hangin' with a bad crowd and was sent to another school. Mitch was/is a killer piano player (classical lesson into the BSU days). Ask him to play "The Entertainer" - in 4th grade he discovered every note that would make your ears bleed. He should join the fray. I also lived next to Jeff Weiss (East Unit Quad Purdue) my first freshman year. What a tangled web indeed.

Mitch-bitchin and I grew up together (Grade schoolers and neighbors). Mitch can also play piano like nobody's business (classically trained until he hit BSU). I went to the NoBar once and lived next to Jeff Weiss my first freshman year when he was at Purdue. I haven't talked to Mitch in a few years. He should join the site. I need to find some of our old running mates.

I forgot about the Abdomen. I remember seeing them play at a pizza parlor Ï want to say "Potzoullis" behind a gas station on Range Line Road in Carmel. We stayed at Mark's house in NYC while we were "roadies"and I use that word very loosley for the Zero Boys.

...and that is why we missed each other.... I was at BSU as a freshman in 85-86 but living in the Nunnery (but partied ALOT at 101 Calvert) - so sure I ran into you there. Maybe Cruzan lived there then?? Maybe Tony Demarco. The worse kitchen I ever cleaned. People remember me from that time because I had broken my hand and had a cast on. I would use the cast to make way to the keg. It wasn't pretty. The cast was beer drenched. I came back in 87 and, yes, it was N. McKinley!. HOWEVER, my first party at BSU was in 84-85 with my sister Laura who lived on Queen. She was in ROTC & a sport called Sombo - so guys always wanted to wrestle her. Freaks...
She took me to my first party and Dan Snellenbarger was playing there with the Beertonz - Dan and I knew each other from Lapel. Drumwild and I are now in touch, which is cool because we might be able to hook up in Bakersfield. To think that Mike Crisci was in one of the first bands I ever saw! :) He went from that to playing with himself....oh, I mean by himself. The one-man band. Brent used to think he would go crazy if he had to hear Mike singing at 3am another night!!!! So he would go beat on Mike's window early at 7am when he would go to work. oh, the witty banter! Every time I watch Monty Python I feel like Brent is right next to me ----spam, spam, spam. Thanks so much for providing the memories. It makes me want to go home and drink.

I would love to see Herff Jones. Any chance you can get it out somewhere? Sheets posted a pick of brent & it was so nice to see his face...much like so many faces and names I am seeing on here. And I didn't even go to college for 10 years like many fine folks - or, in Coker's case, "never leave the farm!" But why WOULD you leave a town with QL's ribs and The Chug. IT's got to be good. You know, when I first starting dating Brent he was living in a brown house on a corner with Tony & about 15 (it seemed) other people????? What house was that? Did you live there too? It would have been in 87
